If the Salve is dry when it arrives
Herbs Absorb Moisture; it's Normal. It will not become less potent when you add moisture.
When you receive your salve, you might notice it's somewhat dry, as the herbs continue to absorb moisture over time. If it's too dry, add a small amount of drinking water and mix it with a matchstick or a toothpick until you achieve a smooth texture. Black Salve will never be as soft as a hand cream, as the powder particles from the plant ingredients are in the salve.

We are proud of the formulation of our Bloodroot Black Salve and all the excellent reviews and testimonials we have received over the years. We have spent much time and energy providing our customers and friends with the platforms they need; they use them to communicate their experiences using Bloodroot. We help each other and discuss hot topics and anything related to Bloodroot pastes, Bloodroot Capsules, and other Bloodroot products. We are proud of that, too!
This Salve is the original product that got Zenith Herbal started long before the idea of producing capsules came up. At the time, we needed Black Salve and were joining all Bloodroot-related groups on Facebook (yes, before they banned it all in 2019). Alas, there was no real consensus on what was or was not an excellent bloodroot salve to buy, no way to measure that, and the prices seemed over the top, ranging from $60 to $120. So, we started producing our own in Thailand (where we lived then) and shipping directly to customers worldwide. In those days (2014), we could even offer Bloodroot products, including Salve, on Amazon.com! Imagine that! Glory days, indeed. Now, we produce all our products in the USA and ship from North Carolina, where our trusted shipping company, Logistech, is located.
Other commonly used names for Bloodroot Salve are "Black Salve," "Cansema" (Brand Name), "Indian Mud," "Indian Paint," "Drawing Salve," and "Black Drawing Salve." Some common misspellings are "black sab" and "black suave."
Indian Salve: A Traditional Remedy
What is Indian Salve?
Indian Salve is another name for Bloodroot Salve, a traditional remedy for generations. It is known for its deep tissue penetration and is often used for various skin conditions.
Why is it Called Indian Salve?
The term "Indian Salve" originates from its use by Native American communities, who have used it for its medicinal properties for centuries.
How is Indian Salve Different from Bloodroot Salve?

Instructions for Use
Before You Begin:
- Take a Photograph
- Take a photograph of the area you’re treating so you can better ask for advice during the treatment. Regular photos are also helpful to track your progress and share your story with others.
- Research and Gather Information
- Try to get an idea of what you are treating and its size from the Bloodroot Group on Facebook.
- Visit www.bloodrootsalve.com. Under the Information tab, read the FAQs and Be Salve Aware.

- Skin Test
- Carry out a skin test by applying a small amount of salve to a patch of normal skin and covering it for 24 hours. A little redness or itching is normal, but no major reaction means the salve is safe for normal skin.
- Understand Bloodroot Salve
- Bloodroot salve is aggressive. Once a reaction starts, it is unlikely to stop until it is done.
Important Note: It’s crucial to follow through with the entire treatment course. Stopping prematurely might result in adverse effects.
Dry Salve Problems?
The reasons are still the same:
- The herbs absorb moisture long after the salve is made
- The jars, even though they are waterproof, are not 100% air tight, and temperature fluctuations will cause the salve to dry out
Solution:
- Keep the salve in a stable temperature environment
- If it is dry, add tap water and stir. You can use the glass jar that we supplied for that purpose if you like
Preparation:
- Clean the Area
- Always wash and dry your hands before preparation of the solution. Also, wash and exfoliate the part of the skin to be treated.
- Stir the Salve
- Stir the Bloodroot Salve using a toothpick, or similar tool, making sure it is clean. If the solution is too dry, add a small amount of water and stir until the solution is smooth.
Application of Bloodroot Salve:
- Apply Salve
- Apply Bloodroot Salve over the lesion, at least 2mm thick. The maximum diameter should be 20mm (use a ruler if necessary).
- Leave the solution for 24 hours and cover with a bandage or dressing. You can use gauze or paper tape.
- Reapply if Necessary
- In case the solution detaches from the skin, re-apply. You can shower normally; make sure to re-apply the Bloodroot Salve afterward.
- Reapply if No Strong Reaction
- After 24 hours, if there are no inflammatory reactions, remove the solution by washing it with water.
- If you’re unsatisfied with the result, re-apply the Bloodroot salve after 1-2 days, following the same process mentioned above.

The 7-Step Guide on how to Apply Black Salve
If You Have a Positive Reaction:
- Sustained Redness and Swelling
- You may notice sustained redness and swelling. A lump may rise under the skin, and spots may appear around the area.
- Salve Absorption
- The bloodroot salve may sink into the lesion and become part of the eschar, which is normal.
If there is NO Major Reaction, consider yourself lucky!
Healing:
- Keep the Area Moist and Covered
- To speed healing, keep the cavity moist, clean, and covered. Normal showering is okay. Consider using Zen Healing Balm for faster healing and pain relief.
DO NOT:
- Do not apply salve every day, or treat multiple spots at once. Apply the salve, then WAIT and let it do its job for the next few days.
- Do not pull the eschar out once it forms after a few days.
- Do not try to treat a large problem area without knowledgeable assistance.
- Do not ignore your diet and lifestyle, which are the most important ways to strengthen your immune system against stem cells.

We ship only to the United States (including all US territories such as Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, etc.). We do not ship directly outside the US and its territories due to regulatory and logistical reasons. If you’re located internationally, you can easily receive your order by using a US package forwarding service. These services provide you with a US shipping address; we ship to that address, and they forward the package to your country (often with consolidation to save on costs).
